Module 9

Social Networks
I think the most important thing from this module is the appropriate use of social networks - training the students to use these tools safely.  If teachers are to do this we probably need to know more about them, but most teachers I know would prefer to stay away from these sites.  One video talked about the new relationships between teachers and students required with the technology revolution.  The whole system to be altered and curriculum change away from outcomes and assessment...has the Australian Curriculum had this focus??
Second life may be good for HSIE/arts/technology type subjects.  It would be a lot of time to set up and show students how to use and how much could they get done in 45 minute lessons.  One video talked about the students feelings and emotions..how a video game does this I don't know.  Twitter and facebook will not be used in my classroom.  Students waste to much time on these.  And I don't really care what someone is doing every minute of the day.  Some privacy is needed.  Linkedin may be useful proffessionaly but the only way to use it in classroom would be to show students how to use it for their future networking needs.
