Final Blog

Some of the key points I found interesting in the elearning clip:
* engaging, enhancing and evolving education
* anything, anywhere, anytime - the use of mobile/portal environments
* developing reflective, responsible learners - using the technology safely
* using technology to share knowledge and expertise and forming local AND global communities
* students learn best when engaged and challenged - what resources and skills to teachers need to enable this
* what needs to CHANGE - strategies/models/curriculum
***Technology merely one tool to obtain learning goals***
It was interesting to see how adding verbs to Blooms Taxonomy could adapt teaching and learning strategies in the classroom.

I guess at the start of the course I was very overwhelmed with what we had to do.  I don't really use any of the 2.0 things in my classroom or at home.  I was surprised at how easy it was to pick up.  I do think that the use of blogs would be a super way to let the students reflect on their own learning and something that I will try in the future.  Also the use of google docs for collaboration of work in group tasks could be a useful tool.  I also like the idea of bookmarking expecially in the form of professional reading.

module: #1

Overall this is a course I probably needed doing.  I have more skills now to try these in my classroom.  It will a matter of time before I feel extremely confident about using 2.0 tools (by then there will probably be new and improved stuff out there for me to learn!)  I think some of the things covered in this course even the students wouldn't know about (except facebook and itunes of course).  The major factor is time - to become better equipped and realise ways to use in the classroom.

Module 10

The use of Wiki's could be a useful tool for collaboration and co-ordination in group work tasks in the classroom.  Web 2.0 could improve learning outcomes by:
* upskilling students for future employment and networking
* collaboration on projects
* less "messy" and "lost" paperwork
* easy access to the students work from anywhere
* a more organised way of presenting the students work

Module 9

Social Networks
I think the most important thing from this module is the appropriate use of social networks - training the students to use these tools safely.  If teachers are to do this we probably need to know more about them, but most teachers I know would prefer to stay away from these sites.  One video talked about the new relationships between teachers and students required with the technology revolution.  The whole system to be altered and curriculum change away from outcomes and assessment...has the Australian Curriculum had this focus??
Second life may be good for HSIE/arts/technology type subjects.  It would be a lot of time to set up and show students how to use and how much could they get done in 45 minute lessons.  One video talked about the students feelings and emotions..how a video game does this I don't know.  Twitter and facebook will not be used in my classroom.  Students waste to much time on these.  And I don't really care what someone is doing every minute of the day.  Some privacy is needed.  Linkedin may be useful proffessionaly but the only way to use it in classroom would be to show students how to use it for their future networking needs.

Module 8

Reader
THis would be very useful on a personal level I think. Proffessionally it could be useful for getting the most recent updates from websites such as Board of Studies and KLA associations or PD opportunities.  I'm not sure how I would use it with the students unless you may be using it with a news site on a current issue.

Module 7

Bookmarks
THis is a good thing for finding useful links when you have a range of computers you might use.  Even with our own laptops it could still be a useful tool- a way of networking and collaboration.  Staff could use it especially for refering to specific sites for professional reading and udpating skills.  For students it could be used to give students a range of relevent sites for a research tasks or extra reading on topics.

Module 6

Flikr
THis seems like a good program for personal use.  I don't really see a need for it in my classroom but may be useful for the school website or annual magazine.
Copyright
THe main theme that comes through is to ensure the material presented is for educational purposes only.  I was interested in the use of wiki/blog laws.  The idea of copying information has been done for ages but by "communicating" that information on the interent for anyone to see is something new to me.  Giving access to only those that need it is the most important thing I think.  Also I'll be checking to see if the school conforms with the notice around photocopiers and restricting the students downloading and burning especially at lunckh time.
While there are exceptions to the Act for teachers and students it is something that both have to be aware of.  To overcome some issues the need for notice and labelling of things scanned into your own documents would need to be explicity taught to students.  Another way is the suggestion of linking sites to the blog instead of just copying them in.
This is an important issue that I was not really aware of and I'm sure the students are not.  The need to be careful of what we copy and communicate within education.

Module 5

I thought the mind mapping tool would be a great thing to introduce the students so they can use it as part of their study notes so they can see the main topic ideas and how they link to each other.  Also a great tool the students can work on together or share.
The use of Prezi seems to be a very creative learning tool especially for the visual learners.  Time and practice needed so that you feel confident with the material your presenting to the students.
